Meet – Sinethemba Masinga, remarkable small-scale Farmer and Director of Sinesthembiso Produce, a vegetable, crop and poultry farm in Ndwedwe in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.
Growing up in a rural environment she learnt the importance of agriculture to provide food security from a young age.
Her love for farming only grew stronger over time, and she began working with the youth and school-aged children to create community gardens.
Although Sinethemba pursued a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in LES, majoring in biochemistry and microbiology, she fell in love with farming.
Her farm produce include spinach, eggplant, green peppers, green beans, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, peanuts, yams, dry beans, butternuts, and pumpkins.
The fact that Sinethemba Masinga funded her way through all her projects is a mighty accomplishment and speaks well of her passion.
She hopes to continue building generational projects that will create a positive impact on her community and inspire others to do the same.
“I’m a second-generation farmer, I have been involved in farming from a very young age, working closely with my parents.”
“Our society sees farming as a career for old men. But farming is for EVERYONE and should not be associated with any gender.”
“There are no limits to the positions women can fill in the agricultural sector. The sky is the limit; young people should go grab those opportunities, break the chains to motivate and create wealth for the generations to come,” said Sinethemba Masinga.
